Where do you stay in Paris? It depends upon your budget. When we first starting coming to Paris in 1994, we found the Hotel Regina listed in the travel guide. It became our hotel. It overlooked the tuileries across the street from the Louvre and you could see the Eiffel Tower in the background. Then the Bourne Identity Movie came out and the Hotel Regina was viewed in that movie. Suddenly the prices for a room skyrocketed.
We save Marriott points and have had tremendous stays at the Marriott on the Champs Elysees in a room overlooking the avenue, with the window that goes up two stories high. It too was breath-taking.
A couple of years ago we found a quaint "old hotel" in the Latin Quarter. The rooms were small and the hotel was sandwiched inbetween other establishments. It was fine, but not the memorable experience we sought.
We have also stayed at the Pullman Montparness, a modern skyscaper hotel across from the Gare de Montparness. It was almost too modern to feel like it was French.
And then we discovered the perfect location for us. It is called the Hotel de Varenne and is located a couple of doors down from the Musee Rodin. It is a 15 minute walk to the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay in one direction and a 15 minute walk to the Eiffel Tower or the Champs Elysees in another direction. It is perfect.
It only has 27 rooms so you must plan ahead but if they are full, an equally quaint hotel is just down the block.
The rooms are charming and the breakfast which is included is the "perfect French petit dejeuner."
