What is the best bread in Paris?

One of Paris’s oldest continually operating bakeries, Poilâne, has been around since 1932. There are four Poilâne shops in Paris to choose from, including one that’s not too far from the Eiffel Tower. The bakery is still family-owned and operated, and the bakery has become famous for its massive 4.5-pound sourdough wheat loaf, which is emblazoned with a swooping P. The bread’s wheat flour blend uses all sorts of stone-ground French grains, but other loaves at the bakery have garnered attention for what they do with raisins, nuts, and rye flour.

Founded in 1932 by Pierre Poilâne, Poilâne® has stood the test of time by elaborating its  art de vivre through eating well and creativity.

Today, Apollonia Poilâne, the third generation at the head of company, retains her family’s unique perspective on the craft of baking: an uncompromising  savoir faire , a commitment to social and environmental consciousness, and a passion for the craft of baking.

Located at 8 Rue du Cherche-Midi, in the heart of Saint Germain-des-Prés (in the 6th  arrondissement of Paris), the original Poilâne® bakery is still the nerve center of the internationally renowned company.

Tasty, nutritious and healthy breads.

Poilane Breads are made of Stone-ground flours, Guérande salt, water and natural leavening are the only ingredients. No preservatives, no additives.

The slow fermentation with leaven, the 100% artisanal manufacture and the cooking with wood fire guarantee a richness as well gustatory as nutritional and confer to our breads capacities of single conservation.

On some trips to France, we have made this our final stop and bring it home on the plane.
